For several issues, we’ve been announcing a generational shift: a project that continues to build strategies for accessing rights, infused with renewal, reinvention, and reconnection, while honoring two decades of achievements.
1. Independence from AMDICHA and autonomy
Seven years ago, together with LatiCe, we helped form the grassroots association AMDICHA. Today, it’s an independent, autonomous organization that upholds Hormigón Armado’s vision and mission. It operates its ventures — selling calendars and planners, and running a branch of El Lustra Gourmet in Tembladerani. Its members are current and former project participants.
2. Diversifying our target group
The project, once almost exclusively focused on male shoeshiners and homeless men, now includes women — especially vulnerable mothers — window washers, and street vendors. We’ve also expanded from working mostly with children and adolescents to supporting whole families, including adult caregivers. Women comprise over 70 % of participants, shifting the project’s focus.
3. Inclusion of people with disabilities
In this 20th‑anniversary year, we’re reaching out to organizations representing people with disabilities, particularly the visually impaired — a direction we’ve been highlighting in recent newspaper issues.
4. Strong alliances and networks
Long‑standing partnerships support our newspaper, gastronomic ventures, and educational programs such as scholarships and school support. These networks helped us endure crises, like the closure of a ten‑year cookie‑production unit with EBA and AMDICHA’s independence in 2024. They also generate new opportunities: two branches of El Lustra Gourmet and seven new scholarship recipients this year.
5. New initiatives this anniversary year
We’re launching two fresh endeavors:
-
Magic Stars & Quimio Kit: support for vulnerable people undergoing chemotherapy
-
Tailoring workshop & socio‑productive enterprise: equipped with a dedicated space and tools.
Both have been under development for years and are now being strengthened.
Looking to the next chapter
We enter our 20th year affirming the importance of education support programs and women as a strategic driving force. Creative, socio‑productive ventures are an effective, pragmatic pathway to economic rights.
